Silent Sky – Piano Online Performance

Piano Online Performance - PianoHello everyone. Let’s get this blog started. Welcome to Piano Online.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words.

So does that mean that a video is worth a thousand pictures?

Well that would make a video worth 100,000 words.

Okay – that’s enough math for today.

My point is, I think it’s best to introduce myself with a video. So here I am playing a composition that I wrote in college. I hope you enjoy this Piano Online performance!

Silent Sky

For those of you that are interested I’ll provide you with some history on this song. I’ve never been a big fan of history, so to make this more fun I will present two possible scenarios and we’ll see if you can guess the correct one.

Okay great! Here is the first possibility:

(1) It all started when I read this book…

The Silent Sky: The Incredible Extinction of the Passenger Pigeon

After finding out that the last passenger pigeon died in 1914 I became very emotional. I started to have the same recurring dream of a flock of pigeons flying high up in the sky on a perfectly clear day surrounded by complete silence. And then a sudden darkness at which point I would awaken. Then the music came to me and the song Silent Sky was created.

If you do not believe that, maybe you will find this second scenario more believable:

(2) I was falling, falling through clear blue skies, falling for what seemed like an eternity… and just as the ground began to come into view I woke up. I felt compelled to sit at my piano and the first two movements of this song came out almost immediately. Even though the song was incomplete at this time, the title Silent Sky seemed fitting because of the dream from which it was inspired. Over the next few weeks I completed writing the remaining movements of the song.

So which one is true and which one is a lie? If you guessed the first one, then you are absolutely….wrong! No, I have never read any books on the extinction of the passenger pigeon, although it does seem like an interesting book (to me anyway).

Those of you who guessed that the second scenario was correct, congratulations! You win bragging rights. I’m not sure who you will brag to, but I’m sure the possibilities are endless…

In the future I will provide you with more Piano Online performances, both original compositions and cover songs.

Anyway, in the coming weeks I will be teaching you how to play some beautiful piano pieces.

The first song I will be teaching is a famous classical piece by Beethoven called Fur Elise. I’m sure that many of you are familiar with it. Even if you have absolutely no experience playing the piano, this is a nice piece to start with. The first movement is not very difficult to learn, and it sounds absolutely beautiful.

Stay tuned…
